Two-dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation (2D-ACAR) and coincidence Doppler broadening (CDB) of annihilation radiation measurements have been performed on electron-irradiated n-type 3C SiC in which isolated silicon vacancies are responsible for positron trapping. After irradiation, the intensity of CDB spectrum increased and decreased in low and high momentum regions, respectively. These fetures were explained by the theoretical calculation considering silicon vacancies. The center region of 2D-ACAR spectra became isotropic after iradiation, while the overall anisotropies extending within the Jones zone were conserved suggesting that isolated silicon vacancies have the tetrahedral symmetry as expected from the previous electron spin resonance study.

With use of the two-dimensional discrete ordinates code DORT and the standard groupwise shielding design library JSSTDL produced from the latest evaluated nuclear data library JENDL-3.2, experimental analyses for the representative configurations in the Radial Shield Attenuation Experiment of the JASPER were performed. The results were compared with those obtained with use of traditional method DOT3.5/JSDJ2 for the previous JASPER experimetal analyses. In general, the change of the cross section library gives higher results and the change of the transport code gives lower results. Finally the new analysis method gives better agreement with the experimental results and also less deviations of calculational errors between various detectors. Experimental analyses for the thick concrete configulation in the Gap Streaming Experiment of the JASPER was also performed with the new analysis method, after solving the poor agreement found in last year with the original JASPER experimental analyses. The same tendency due to the library change was confirmed with the above mentioned analyses of the Radial Shield Attenuation Experiment. Compilation of the input data necessary for future reanalyses of important configurations in JASPER experiments were continued through the above-mentioned experimental analyses and related informations were added for repletion of the database preserved in a computer disk holding previously accumulated data. Input data descriptions were made for auxiliary routines needed for the experimental analyses and their sample data were compiled and stored in the database.

Thermal Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis of ShieldPlug(II); Verification of FLUSH by Two-Dimensional Model

PNC TN9410 96-102, 40 Pages, 1996/04

PNC-TN9410-96-102.pdf:0.91MB

In designing the shield plug of LMFBR, it is important to evaluate the thermal response between the cover gas thermal-hydraulics and the temperature fields of the shield plug at the same time. Based on the experiments which were performed by OEC, the natural convection and the thermal radiation in the cover gas layer were calculated with the structure simulating the shield plug in a detail two-dimensional model. The calculations were carried out for 8 kinds of experimental RUNs using a FLUSH code. The main results were as follows: (1)For these 8 kinds of experimental RUNs, the velocity and the temperature distributions in the cover gas layer were presented. The radial and axial temperature distributions in the rotating plug were also presented, which were difficult to measure by the experiments. (2)The boundary surface temperature between the cover gas layer and the rotating plug had the same tendencies and the calculated average temperatures on the boundary surface had good agreements with the experimental data. The average relative deviations from experimental values were less than 1.3%. (3)The natural convection of the cover gas enhanced the temperature distributions in the structure. The effects of thermal radiation on the heat transfer was relatively small and it can be neglected when the temperature of the heated aluminum disk is less than 400$$^{circ}$$C.
